Consumer Unit Replacement

Your Consumer Unit ( Fuseboard) is the most pivotal part of your electrical installation.

It distributes power throughout the property, and its key components – main switches, residual current devices (RCDs), and circuit breakers – can be, according to the component, either manually or automatically shut off to protect you, against electric shock or burns and your property from damage from a potential fire caused by electrical faults.

Consumer units can last for many years and still operate well, so you may think " why do I need to change it ?"

The Wiring Regulations change every 10 years and from 2008 they stipulated the greater use of RCD's for additional protection against electric shock throughout the installation and in 2015  stressed the importance of enhanced fire risk protection with implementation of the switch to metal clad consumer units for all new electrical installations and designs.

This doesn't mean all plastic boards have to be changed immediately, but there may be factors to be considered with regard to your board location in the property, its type and its circuit protection.

We offer a bespoke consumer unit replacement service with our standard installation being a unit populated with a Surge Protection device * and individual RCBO devices which offer full protection from overload and overcurrent with the built in additional protection against electric shock.

We can advise you on a range of Consumer Unit brands that suit your budget.

* A surge protection device is recommended in the latest wiring regulations and protects the ever increasing electronic components/devices within your installation from a power surge.

If you are not sure about the condition of your current consumer unit, or if you have old style rewireable fuses or just need peace of mind, then contact us for free advice and a no obligation quote for upgrading your Unit to the current regulations with all the additional safety features.
